Fun Projects

The move to Maryland brought new sample sites and access to local diatoms and other algae from the Miocene in the Calvert and Choptank Formations.  The search is on as well for late Eocene diatom-bearing sediments to compare with the assemblages present in Texas.

The late Eocene near-shore environment of the northern shore of the paleo Gulf of Mexico coast is examined in a suite of samples from a quarry in east central Texas. The samples from this site record a productive setting dominated by Paralia with an accompanying diverse assemblage of benthic and planktonic diatom species. Some of this work was presented at the April 5-8 2017 SEPM meeting in Houston, TX in the North American Micropaleontology Section session.
